Meet the Union!
The Oakland AFT is made up of its membership. It's rank and file are adult ed hourly teachers. But K-12 teachers can also be members - and hundreds
are, because the AFT gives them a stronger voice to fight for better teaching conditions. Many K-12 teachers join the AFT because we're part of the AFL-CIO, the largest coalition of unions in the country.
Members elect the officers and executive board. These are the folks who
decide: the union's priorities, our political direction, hiring and firing,
how to spend union money and the day to day governing of Local 771.
Here's the leadership of the Oakland AFT:
Ana Turetsky, President
Sylvia Williams, Contracted Vice President
Dan Spalding, Organizing Vice President
Peter Forni, Membership Secretary
Mark Airgood, Membership Services Vice President
Pamela Drake, COPE Vice President
Teri Barr, Education Vice President
Tania Kapner, Recording Secretary
and Anita Medal is the AFT 771 Staff Person.
